The great debate between Chris Dodd and Bill O’Reilly over the virtues -- or complete lack thereof -- of the Daily Kos political blog was all set to air Wednesday night on Fox News. The confrontation, which we took note of in an earlier item, had been taped. The press team for Dodd’s Democratic presidential campaign already had issued an anticipatory release, with a headline saying that its candidate ‘STANDS UP TO O’REILLY ATTACKS ON BLOGOSPHERE; EXPOSES FOX HOST’S HYPOCRISY.’

Then, of course, a disaster intruded. And Fox -- like the other cable news channels -- swept aside its regular programming to concentrate on covering the bridge collapse in Minneapolis.

According to the Dodd camp, the verbal fireworks now will be shown tonight. We had ruminated previously that the debate seemingly was serving the purposes of both participants. Today, it seems more than a little bit off point.
