The top two candidates running to be California’s next governor met Tuesday in Long Beach.

At the Women’s Conference at the Long Beach Convention Center, Republican Meg Whitman and Democrat Jerry Brown -- alongside Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger -- met on stage to talk about their visions for California’s future.

Moderated by NBC’s Matt Lauer, the conversation steered toward addressing the negative campaign adverstisements that have come out of both camps, especially as the election draws closer.

Schwarzenegger refused to endorse either candidate.
