Banning’s Ferragamo is sidelined

With the 2006 season firmly in Banning Coach Chris Ferragamo’s rear-view mirror -- his first season of coaching varsity football since 1987 -- he can’t wait for the 2007 season to begin.

But he will have to wait a little longer.

Ferragamo must serve a two-game suspension,

Starting with this Friday’s season opener at Los Angeles, he must serve a two-game suspension. The City Section rules committee ruled in December that Ferragamo had allowed two ineligible players to travel with the Pilots for their 2006 season opener against Wilson.

Even now, Ferragamo doesn’t think he did anything wrong, but he said his appeal was denied by City officials.

Assistant coaches Joe Dominguez and Ed Barreras will run the team this week and next Thursday, when Banning hosts Fremont.

Ferragamo is anticipating good things for his team after last year’s 4-7 record.

‘I know we’re emotionally ready to start,’ he said. ‘Physically, we’re a little ragged around the edges. But we’re definitely ready to hit someone besides ourselves in practice.’
