Earlier this week I wrote about Kyle Andrus being in the best position to assume the full-time QB role at Oak Park. Well, it looks like Coach Dick Billingsley’s decision to start him under center paid off in the Eagles’ 35-0 pounding of Royal. Andrus may not have as good of an arm as fellow QB Nick DiPaolo, but that didn’t stop him from utilizing his foot speed. But there’s another Kyle over at Oak Park making even bigger waves.

Two-way standout Kyle Shorten had a big night: The Ventura County Star reported he rushed for 129 yards and three TDs in 15 carries. Shorten, who also plays DB, assisted LBs Sean Westgate and Chris Dacar in holding Royal to less than 150 total yards.

Hopefully for the Eagles, Shorten and Westgate (who rushed for 88 yards against Cathedral in the opener) will have another clutch performance next week against Newbury Park. They’re going to have to be on top of the their game if they’re going to have a shot against a talented Panther squad.
