Jackrabbits off to a hopping start

Good crowd, good start here at Veterans Stadium, especially for Long Beach Poly free safety Vaughn Telemaque.

Several college recruiters are here, including ones from Nevada, Boise State and Fresno State, and so far, Telemaque is giving them an eyeful.

The 6-2, 190-pound free safety has intercepted two passes, and the first quarter isn’t even over.

As a result, the Jackrabbits have taken control early, as each of the picks led to scores and it’s 10-0.

Senior kicker Jonathan Heinze converted a 43-yard field goal with 3:35 left in the quarter. After Telemaque intercepted another Daniel Torres pass at the Carson 13, and senior running back Ricky Johnson ran for a touchdown on the next play. Heinze kicked the extra point.
