I remember last year when I was working the prep desk, taking results calls from coaches, and there was always one name that stood out in boys’ water polo.

I must have heard the name Peter Kurzeka about 100 times last fall and, apparently, I better get used to it again because he’s poised to have another dynamite season for Agoura. The Chargers are once again the favorite to win the Marmonte League title and Kurzeka will be at the forefront of that effort.

Kurzeka scored 119 goals last season and is leading a Charger team that not only wants the league title, but something their female counterparts achieved last February -- a Southern Section Division II title.

Of course, Ventura, ranked No. 4 in the Southern Section coaches’ poll, and No. 7 Santa Barbara will be battling Agoura for Division II bragging rights.

Here’s what the Ventura County Star had to say about some of the perennially strongest boys’ water polo teams in the region.
