Eagle Rock is on such a roll.

Coach Jerry Chou kept his starting running back Andrew Trejo out of the opening series against La Canada on Thursday because he was two minutes late for a team meeting, and Chou is big on accountability.

‘We try to do things right,’ Chou said.

When Trejo entered the game midway through the first quarter, the Eagles were ahead, 7-0. Over the next 2 1/2 quarters, Trejo carried the ball 13 times and unofficially gained 271 yards. He scored touchdowns on runs of 69, 66 and 70 yards in the 48-7 road victory over the dazed and dazzled Spartans.

Trejo was 13 yards shy of tying the school record, set by John Paul Yniguez when he rushed for 284 yards against Lincoln in 2002.

Trejo’s last run, the 70-yard TD romp, came on the first play of the fourth quarter and made the score 48-0. Chou was told that his junior running back was within footsteps of the school yardage, but the coach was adamant.

‘He’s done for the night,’ Chou said. ‘I’m already worried they think we’re running up the score.’

Instead, Eagle Rock (5-0) ran its winning streak to 17, it last loss occurring Sept. 8, 2006 against Canoga Park. The Eagles are idle next week before beginning Northern League play.

‘I don’t want to hear anything [about the streak],’ Chou said. ‘Let’s just get ready for Belmont.’

And expect Trejo to be on time for the next team meeting.
