Ever since I first saw Troy’s Derrick Coleman three years ago, I’ve thought the 6-foot, 220-pound running back was underrated. It’s a pretty amazing statement considering he rushed for 2,340 yards and 37 touchdowns his junior year. But yeah, he doesn’t get much pub.

He plays at Troy, a relatively small school with not much of a schedule, so that plays a role in it. But I’ve always held the opinion he is one of OC’s best.

Well, the Register’s Adam Maya wonders if he is the best, period. Maya wrote:

What he [Coleman] does makes him the best. By A LOT. Coleman was menacing tonight. His final numbers say 15 carries for 153 yards and three receptions for 83 yards and three touchdowns overall. It was much more than that. And it doesn’t even matter he’s doing it among smaller players and at a school of Troy’s size. Stand next to him. His build is solid. Watch him run. His running motion is fluid. Talk to him. His determination is palpable.

Coleman, as you may know, is going to UCLA. I asked Adam if there was another running back from the OC that is going to a higher profile school? He didn’t come up with any. I can’t think of any myself.

So that’s the question: Is Troy’s Coleman the best running back in The OC? If not, tell me who’s better.
