Unless you were a freshman wide receiver or defensive back at Mater Dei in 1992, you probably wouldn’t know Centennial Coach Matt Logan began his career at the intersection of Bristol and Edinger.

But there the young assistant was, on Thursday afternoons, hands on knees, trying to explain to a 15-year-old the difference between a post and a corner route.

Fifteen years later, Logan will face off against his old employer when Centennial and Mater Dei meet Thursday night at Santa Ana Stadium in a clash of Southern California’s (and the state’s) top-ranked teams.

Logan has won 100 games in 11 seasons at Centennial. He’s hoping to hand the Monarchs and Coach Bruce Rollinson only their 50th loss in the last 19 seasons. But if the Mater Dei athletic supporters are hoping to read something from Logan’s mouth to stoke their Red Wave, they’ve come to the wrong blog.

‘Oh, wow,’ is all he said after I told him Friday night that Mater Dei had just defeated Edison, 42-14.

I don’t know if it was shock or awe.

The good news for the Huskes, if there was any out of that 31-24 victory over bus-cramped Clovis West, is they played with the same offensive line for only the second time this season, and another key member is expected to return from injury this week.

I know what you’re thinking.

‘Oh, wow.’
