Just the name of this cross-country meet gives me goose bumps.

The Inland Empire Challenge is scheduled for 7:30 a.m. Saturday at Guasti Regional Park in Ontario. Riverside County schools will take on those from San Bernardino County for bragging rights in the IE and, thanks to the technological age, it’s increasingly possible for somebody in Phelan to contact, say, somebody in Redlands.

You can find a list of entries here, but I’ll save you some research when it comes to picking the winners in the Division I race. The Murrieta Valley boys’ team is ranked third in state and the Nighthawks are rested and ready.

On the girls’ side, Redlands is also ranked third in state and the Terriers should glide to another victory after winning the Yucaipa Invitational last weekend.

Gates open at 6:30 a.m. Be there! (that was my impersonation of Larry ‘Supermouth’ Huffman, whose radio commercials also once gave me goose bumps)
