I got a sideline pass for tonight’s Diamond Ranch-Oaks Christian game at Ganesha High School. BTW, are those the coolest sideline passes ever!?! That photo, on the left, is of QB Joe Carrillo and it’s from Avery J. Productions’ Blog-- Shannon Avery Acevedo, from what I can tell, is the person that designed the passes, as well as the team’s nifty media guide.

I spoke earlier in the week to Panthers Coach Roddy Layton and he is a very motivational speaker. He had me pumped, no joke. And he’s always coming up with crazy ways to get his team motivated too.

Earlier in the season, Layton showed his team a video of Mike Tyson’s greatest knockouts before the team played Chino Hills. The result: Panthers 42, Chino Hills 28.

For this game, Layton is taking a different approach. He is going to show videos of his and his coaching staff’s high school playing days. A little change of pace.

The team has been so banged up this week that coaches have put on pads and helmets and practiced with the kids. Layton, who is battling a cold, played the role of Oaks Christian QB Christopher Potter. The kids gave Layton and the coaches a hard time for putting on the pads.

Which is probably why he is going to show them that video -- to keep the laughter going and ease the tension leading up to kickoff time at 7 p.m.

‘We’ll give the kids a good laugh,’ Layton said. A good, GOOD laugh.
