Once again, I misjudged how traffic would be and I arrived at Pierce College about an hour before the start of the Crespi-Alemany game. It wasn’t a total loss , though, because I was able to catch up with injured Crespi QB Kevin Prince, pictured left, one of the most heavily-recruited players in Southern California.

Prince’s senior season was wiped out only five plays into the year after he tore the ACL in his right knee against Birmingham. Since then, he’s been going to physical therapy twice a week to prepare for the surgery he’s going to have in three weeks.

Still, he seemed remarkably upbeat about the situation on Friday night, and he’s really pleased with how the Celts have played in his on-field absence.

‘I know what it was like last year,’ Prince said, ‘but I really don’t know what it’s like to play with these guys this year. It looks like it would be a lot of fun.’

Even though his senior season has been taken away, Prince still has plenty of scholarship offers on the table. He hasn’t officially committed to anyone yet, but he told me he’s narrowed his choice to either UCLA or Washington.

‘I get to go to UCLA whenever I want right now and see what it’s like,’ Prince said, ‘but I haven’t been up to Washington to see a game, yet. I went up to Seattle twice during the summer, but I’m trying to set up a trip to see what a game’s like.’

Prince said he’ll make a decision in the upcoming months.

As for the rest of the team, I think the Celts, ranked No. 10 by The Times, have got a significant edge in this one. But I’ve been wrong before on games I thought were a sure bet.
