I know everyone at Moorpark is sick of hearing about why Darrell Scott left last winter, so I promise not to mention that St. Bonny convert’s name in the same blog with the Musketeers again this season. Besides, who needs to talk about Scott (oops!) when you’ve got a guy like Austin Edmonson.

Not only does this guy have a pretty cool name, he’s also had some pretty good performances in the last couple of games despite his sophomore status.

In the Musketeers’ important and surprisingly big 40-17 victory over Thousand Oaks on Friday, Edmonson rushed for 118 yards and three TDs in 24 carries. Last week, he gobbled up a career-high 176 yards and had two TDs in 23 attempts in a 25-14 victory over Royal.

‘We knew he was a talented running back at the beginning of the season,’ Moorpark Coach Tim Lins said, ‘and we threw him into the fire because we expected him to carry the load for us. He’s really improved and he’s an excellent receiver out of the backfield.’

If Edmonson can keep the legs churning for the rest of the season, the Musketeers’ Edmonson-Adam Barry duo could be best offensive tandem in the Marmonte League behind the Chris Brown-Colby Cameron show at Newbury Park.

We’ll see if it’s enough to keep them ahead of playoff-hungry Westlake, Simi Valley and T.O.

‘We know it’s going to be a dog fight the entire way,’ Lins said.
