Crespi looks to prove itself, again

After last week’s close call against Alemany, Crespi wraps up the nonleague portion of its season Friday against a talented St. Paul team that’s been causing a ruckus south of L.A. this season.

Stuffed all the way down there in Santa Fe Springs, the Swordsmen are a little detached from the rest of their Mission League brethren, but they’ll definitely pose a challenge for Chaminade next week.

As for Crespi, it’ll want to prove it’s still the same team that knocked off Birmingham and St. Bonaventure following its three-point loss to Canyon and a pretty-good looking second-half effort against the Warriors.

We all know sophomore QB Bryan Bennett has developed into a better-than-average hurler thanks to Coach Jeremiah Ross, his coaching staff and the tutelage of injured DI prospect Kevin Prince. Bennett has also benefited from having guys like 6-foot-7 TE Joseph Fauria (committed to Notre Dame) to throw the ball to.

However, I would like to see a more consistent appearance by what’s been a two-faced Celts’ running game. RBs Austin Shanks and UCLA-bound E.J. Woods (pictured, right, scoring a TD vs. Alemany) looked great against St. Bonny, but couldn’t get much going against Canyon or Alemany.
