I made another quick call, this time to Golden Valley Coach Steve Pinkston, who took a timeout from his trek on Highway 14 to let me know the Grizzlies’ scheduled game against Saugus still looks good for Friday.

However, he is looking at alternate sights in the San Fernando Valley if the game cannot be played at Canyon.

“I met with the school administration this morning and we’re taking it day-by-day,” Pinkston said. “At this point it’s still on Friday, but we’re still waiting to hear back from the [school] district. It all depends on the air quality.”

Pinkston told me it looks a lot better out in the Santa Clarita Valley today and expressed confidence that Golden Valley can hold practice as usual starting tomorrow.

“We might be limited in what we can do tomorrow if the air isn’t good,” Pinkston said. “Things are starting to clear up and the fire seems to be more in the mountains.”

If everything stays the same, Golden Valley (2-5, 0-2) and Saugus (6-1, 2-0) will play 7 p.m. Friday at Canyon HS.
