Foothill League games still on for Friday, so far

I spoke with Valencia AD Brian Stiman this evening and he said the school district didn’t make any football schedule changes during its meeting this afternoon. So it looks like, at least for now, that all Foothill League games will be played as scheduled on Friday.

‘We’re planning to play on Friday right at this moment,’ Stiman said. ‘Ask me in 10 minutes, though, and it could be completely different.’

Stiman said all freshman football games scheduled for Thursday were given the green light, though the district could change its mind again if air quality conditions do not improve over today’s.

This afternoon, all area football teams were allowed to practice indoors. I called Hart Coach Mike Herrington around 6 p.m., thinking practice would be over, but instead the team was just getting started in the school gym. Apparently, the volleyball team has first dibs on the hardwood floor over on Newhall Avenue.

But Herrington wasn’t alone. Stiman told me Valencia Coach Larry Muir held an afternoon film session with his team before sending them home for dinner. The players will then come back for practice in the gym at 7 p.m.

‘Everything is day-to-day on this,’ Stiman said. ‘But are they going to move the games back to Saturday? My feeling is no.’
