Officials from the Sea View League were trying to meet Thursday afternoon to determine which direction they would go as it related to football games canceled this weekend by the Southland’s wildfires.

Apparently, there is a principal from one school that does not want to play the game, though it appears all coaches and athletic directors do, according to Jason Negro, the coach at Trabuco Hills. ‘My feeling is all of us will play, or all of us won’t play,’ said Negro, whose team is atop the league standings after last week’s 22-16 upset of Foothill.

If it is determined that the Sea View League will play its games, Trabuco Hills would play host to Woodbridge on campus or at Sage Hill, ‘depending on who has the better air’ on Monday, Negro said. ‘Sage Hill was more than accommodating.’

Trabuco Hills was one of the schools most adversely affected by poor air quality from the Santiago Canyon fire.

The decision by Orange County superintendents to cancel all activities through the weekend was extremely frustrating for Negro, because Saturday could have been a viable make-up day provided air quality was OK.

‘Why make the decision so early,’ Negro said. ‘They could make the decision before everyone leaves school on Friday. I think the impact of making that decision earlier makes it harder because CIF rules are specific, you can’t have three games in an eight-day period.

‘I live in Fountain Valley, and I’m standing in my back yard and there’s blue skies and not one ounce of smoke smell. I don’t have an air quality meter, but I’ve got to believe the air in Fountain Valley is better than it is at Trabuco Hills, and we’re still talking two days away. To cancel things through the weekend is frustrating.’
