After the Coachella Valley Music Festival, I doubt anything else is more anticipated among the area’s nongeriatric crowd than the annual Desert Valley League showdown between La Quinta and Palm Desert.

This season, both are 7-2 overall and 4-0 in the DVL heading into their clash Friday night at 7 at La Quinta High. They’ve been eyeballing each other since last season, when Palm Desert squandered a 28-0 halftime lead and lost, 33-28, handing La Quinta the DVL title.

In fact, the last five meetings between the teams have been decided by a touchdown or less. Of course, the CalPreps.com computer could care less about tradition, but even he/she envisions another close one, predicting La Quinta wins this round, 21-20.

Perhaps not ‘The Battle of Los Angeles’ but worth a look, definitely.
