With its only loss coming to Crespi in Week 4, St. Bonaventure is still the frontrunner to represent Southern California in this December’s Division III state championship bowl game. The Seraphs have once again plowed through Channel League play and can clinch their 12th consecutive league title outright with a victory over Buena on Friday.

As for the rest of SoCal’s Division III suitors, guess who’s right behind St. Bonny according to Rivals and CalHiSports.com? (Hint: It’s one of three undefeated teams in the San Fernando Valley/North region)

Well, if you guessed Los Padres League champion Morro Bay, you’re correct. The Pirates still are somewhat of a longshot, but if they can somehow take the Northwest Division title and St. Bonny suffers an early exit from the Northern Division playoffs, there’s a chance the Pirates’ ship could be sailing to the Home Depot Center come December.

Still, Morro Bay will have to fend off divisional foes Oak Park, Oaks Christian and San Dimas to put themselves in that position. I’m not sure if it has what it takes to beat these playoff-hardened squads.

Oaks Christian is ranked No. 4 in the Rivals.com rankings and St. Paul and Paraclete also made the top 10.

Santa Rosa Cardinal Newman and Modesto Central Catholic are the two top-projected Division III bowl teams from Northern California.
