Ever wonder how much food it takes to feed a stadium full of football fans each week?

Well, I asked.

How about 100 pounds of tri-tip, 700 hamburgers, 800 hot dogs, 30 pizzas and 30 cases of bottled water.

And that doesn’t include ‘I don’t even know how many churros and chips,’ said Anna Aust, who, along with husband Michael Aust, makes the weekly food orders and runs the snack bar at Sherman Oaks Notre Dame.

The Knight are here playing an as-yet scoreless first quarter against Crespi.

The game is a battle for the Serra League title between two of the Sothland’s best teams.

Notre Dame is ranked No. 7 by The Times and ninth in the state by MaxPreps.com. Crespi ranked No 10 by the Times.

A large crowd -- I’d say there are about 3,000 people here -- is a reflection of the big game.

Let’s hope the Austs have ordered enough food.

‘Last week, it was homecoming, and I ran out of food,’ Anna Aust said.

About $26,000 in profits from football food sales last year helped pay for the installation of the school’s new turf field and bleachers. Contributions were also made to improving the weight room and to a school scholarship fund.

‘It pays for itself,’ Michael Aust said. ‘We make most of our snack-bar money on football, but all the sports benefit.’
