A little bewilderment on the sidelines here at the Hart-Saugus game.

Initially, a 50-yard TD run by Hart’s Delano Howell was called back because of a holding penalty. However, after a quick referee huddle near the end zone, the referees reversed the decision and put their arms in the air, much to the delight of the Indian faithful.

However, Saugus Coach Jason Bornn, pictured left after talking to the refs, was obviously less than thrilled with the call. And I have to admit, I haven’t seen a call like that in a long time. Everyone on the sidelines, myself included, seems a little confused why the penalty didn’t stand as called. Oh well, that’s high school football for you.

So, Hart jumped out to a 6-0 lead , but Saugus scored on the next possession on a 23-yard run by Ry Biehahn to give the Centurions a 7-6 lead with 9:36 left before halftime.

And the reason why Saugus is enjoying a slim lead is because Eddie Smith, pictured right, blocked Hart’s extra-point attempt. It was the second blocked kick of the night for Saugus, which also prevented a 39-yard field goal attempt by Hart’s Johnny MacArthur thanks to a block by Jacob Gallegos.

The 8,000-plus fans in attendance for this one are certainly getting their money’s worth.
