After seeing linebacker Patrick Larimore participating in warm-up drills before Friday night’s showdown with Saugus, I was wondering if the ol’ football coach over at Hart was trying to pull a fast one over us media types.

Coach Mike Herrington told me Larimore was scheduled to have surgery to repair a torn thumb ligament and would be done for the rest of the season. The assessment was based on the belief Larimore would have surgery on Wednesday and/or wouldn’t get doctor approval to play. Larimore, seen in this photo with the rest of the Hart defense, said four doctors told him he couldn’t play before a fifth said he could play with a cast.

‘We never lied to you guys,’ said Herrington, whose Indians defeated Saugus, 24-21. ‘We never told you he wouldn’t play for sure.’

Well, I definitely didn’t hear anyone say he was going to play. But I guess I’ll have to give this one to Herrington since his assessment on Larimore’s playing status dealt directly with surgery and physician approval.

Nevertheless, this may have been Larimore’s last hurrah as a prep football player -- oh, wait a minute, I don’t want to jump to any conclusions. Here’s what Herrington had to say on the matter:

‘Unfortunately, he’s going in Monday or Tuesday to get [surgery] done. So we could have him late in the playoffs, but we have no idea. Right now, if he comes back after the surgery, that would be icing on the cake.’
