Quick, tell me the first thing that comes to your mind when I ask: Name the most important position on the football field? If there’s any Newbury Park fans reading this, you guys better say quarterback, as in Colby Cameron, because without him, the Panthers would not be in Friday’s Northern Division quarterfinal playoff game against Valencia.

The senior signal caller has been at his best when it’s mattered most, down the stretch, late in the season. In the last two games, over a seven-day span, he’s guided the team to a share of the Marmonte League title and a 34-14 victory in the postseason opener over Santa Barbara.

His leadership has not gone unnoticed. Recruiting services such as Rivals.com and Scout.com have begun to pay attention to him and several NCAA Division I programs have expressed interest. Louisiana Tech has even offered a scholarship, so Cameron must be doing something right. Something important.
