Newbury Park wins, 29-28, on last-minute field goal

Sophomore Phillip Muscarella kicked a 32-yard field goal with 23 seconds left to lift third-seeded Newbury Park to a 29-28 victory over host Valencia in a Northern Division quarterfinal Friday night.

Muscarella also made nine catches for 196 yards, including four receptions on the final drive to put the Panthers within field goal range. He also scored TDs on passes of 28, 38, 40 yards.

Newbury Park QB Colby Cameron connected on 15 of 37 passes for 318 yards and four TDs. He also threw three interceptions. Valencia’s Jordan Thompson rushed for 121 yards in 21 carries.

Newbury Park (11-1) will play Hart in the semifinals next week. Valencia’s season ends at 7-4-1.
