There were several interesting Southern Section quarterfinal playoff matchups Friday night and quite a few interesting results. Some teams moved a step closer to the ultimate goal, an appearance in a championship game. Others came up short and were sent home early. So, without further delay, let’s take a look at the best of the best.

No big surprise here: With all eyes on him, Darrell Scott, pictured from an earlier game, went out and had another big game for top-seeded St. Bonaventure, rushing for 203 yards and two touchdowns in 17 carries in a 44-13 Northern Division victory over Westlake. The senior scored on a runs of 7 and 19 yards to increase his touchdown total to 19 on the season. Can anyone, or anything, stop him?

Keeping pace: If there’s one player who can rival Scott in terms of sheer dominance it might be Cierre Wood. The junior from Santa Clara rushed for 268 yards and four touchdowns, on get this, only nine carries, in a 64-28 Mid-Valley Division victory over La Salle. Impressive numbers, to be sure.

Three from Tri-Valley League advance: Chris Owusu had three receptions for 72 yards and a touchdown for Oaks Christian in a 44-7 victory over Serra of Gardena. As for Oak Park well, Kyle Shorten rushed for 111 yards and three touchdowns in a 20-3 victory over Harvard-Westlake. Nordhoff kept its postseason plans alive with a 42-41 double overtime victory over Centennial Compton. Check out what the Ventura County Star had to say about the Rangers’ thriller.
