After any game there’s always going to be ‘what ifs.’ That is certainly the case for Charter Oak after it lost to Trabuco Hills, 27-3, in the Southwest Division semifinals Friday night.

The Chargers have plenty of ‘em.

What if two touchdowns don’t get called back because of penalties in the first half?

What if they tackle better?

What if it doesn’t rain?

‘There’s no doubt (the rain) hurt both teams,’ said Trabuco Hills Coach Jason Negro, whose Mustangs play on artificial turf. ‘Especially with the speed they have.’

One of the things I was interested in finding out was how Trabuco Hills was going to take away Kanaan Snowden’s ability to turn the corner. Turns out they didn’t have to because Mother Nature did it for them.

‘Our running game is a little more sophisticated,’ Charter Oaks Coach Lou Farrar said. ‘They are just a pretty straight-ahead bunch of guys. You have to get breaks and you have to tackle them, and that didn’t happen for us tonight. No breaks.

‘I thought we had these guys all the way. I just think it was a game of momentum. Had we not gotten those two touchdowns back... They were huge. I wish we could have played them on a dry field.’

What if’s.
