Now that Darrell Scott has, at best, only a couple games left in his high school career, who’s going to take over his spot as the best RB in the region?

Well, Saugus’ Ryan Zirbel should have a phenomenal senior season, but what about Oaks Christian sophomore Malcolm Jones? Lions Coach Bill Redell hit the nail on the head when he said Jones, pictured, reminds him of how Scott played as a sophomore and the College Football Hall of Famer even tossed around the idea that he could be better than Scott by the time he’s a senior.

‘He’s a phenomenal athlete and he’s loaded with skill,’ Redell said.

It might be a little premature to compare him with the 7,000-yard menace that’s terrorized opponents at Moorpark and St. Bonaventure over the last three years, but Jones is the real deal. Heading into tonight’s Northwestern Division final against Nordhoff, Jones has 1,879 yards rushing and 23 TDs. He is also second in team receiving with 274 yards and four TDs.

We’ll see what he can do tonight as Oaks Christian goes for what would be its fifth consecutive division title. Game time is 7:30 and I’ll keep you posted.
