Three costly Nordhoff turnovers morphed into three quick Oaks Christian TDs as the Lions scored 28 points in the second quarter to take a 35-0 halftime lead here at the Northwest Division finals. Barring a series of freak accidents, it looks as if Oaks Christian’s fifth consecutive division title is already in the bag.

A Chris Potter interception led to a 12-yard TD pass from Potter to Christopher Coyle to give the Lions a 21-0 lead early in the second quarter. Then, a fumble recovery by Thomas Didarno gave way to a 30-yard TD catch by WR Scott Arellano. And finally, on the next play after another Oaks Christian fumble recovery, Chris Owusu scored on a 39-yard run.

Nordhoff, unfortunately, hasn’t been able to do anything to make a game of it. The team’s leading rusher, Damian Kaiser, has only 11 yards on the night and QB Garrett Graham has been held to only four completions for 52 yards. As a result, the Lions put in their subs on Nordhoff’s final possession of the first half.

Malcolm Jones has 146 yards and two TDs in 10 carries for Oaks Christian and Potter has connected on seven of nine passes for 113 yards and two TDs.

Hopefully, things will get better in the second half. I don’t want to lose my fingers to frostbite in a blowout.
