I’ve finally become a Seraph believer

I want to say congratulations to St. Bonaventure for earning its first-ever ticket to a divisional state bowl game. Thanks to a 42-28 victory over second-seeded Hart in Saturday’s Northern Division final, the Seraphs will play Modesto Central Catholic in the Division III state bowl game at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Home Depot Center.

I’ve been underestimating the Seraphs ever since they lost to Crespi around mid-season. It turns out the Celts were a really good team -- although Long Beach Poly was a really, really good team -- and I shouldn’t have picked the St. Bonny boys as underdogs against Saugus and Hart. I guess I was drinking a little too much from the Foothill League tap this season.

I’m not going to make that mistake again. I know St. Bonaventure will beat Central Catholic for its first state bowl title and its going to do it with guys like QB Casey Serna, who’s proven he throw the ball just as well as he can catch it.

And RB Darrell Scott, DB Patrick Hall, DL Raphael Washington, LB Loren Powers, OL Vaughn Dotsy and WR Blayne Lewis have also played an integral role in the Seraphs grabbing section title No. 9. Look for them to continue their dominance next week.
