The Saugus boys’ basketball team is off to a 5-0 start and a lot of that has to do with play Cameron Diorio, Mitch Weber, Michael Cassio and Josh Benham.

The fab four combined for 61 points in the Centurions’ 63-59 victory Nov. 30 over the Roberto Nelson-led boys over at Santa Barbara, which is ranked No. 22 in The Times’ preseason poll. And they combined for 49 points to defeat Westlake, 62-59, in the championship game of the Saugus Shootout on Dec. 1.

Diorio is averaging 17.8 points a game and Weber, Cassio and Benham are all averaging between 12 and 10 points a game heading into their Oak Park tournament opener today against Calabasas.

Still, the Centurions’ solid start shouldn’t be a shocker -- they have six returning players and they posted a 24-6 record over the summer, which included Westmont and Hart tournament championships. So don’t be surprised one bit if the Centurions take off on an unstoppable fastbreak for the Foothill League title next month. Afterall, defending league champs Hart lost in double digits to Westlake on Friday.
