Carl Buggs didn’t have much time to chat. ‘I’m on a shuttle leaving the airport,’ he chirped into his cell phone.

Poly’s in Chandler, Ariz., this week for the prestigious Tournament of Champions. Earlier this month, the Jackrabbits, the No. 1-ranked team by The Times and one of the top-ranked teams in the nation, jetted to Oregon for a tourney and will travel later this season to New Mexico and Minnesota. ‘It’s hard to tell how all this traveling is going to affect us,’ he said.

Wednesday, Poly (2-1) will play Woodson of Washington D.C. at 1:45 p.m., hoping to rebound from a shocking 74-58 loss to San Francisco Sacred Heart Cathedral.
