Here’s a quick update at how some regional boys’ basketball teams faired at last week’s tournaments:

AVALON: After losing to the host Lancers in pool play on Friday, you knew Bell-Jeff would be chomping at the bit for revenge. And they got it thanks to Nick Papagallo‘s game-clinching basket with four seconds remaining in a 43-42 consolation championship victory over Avalon. The Guards (9-4) almost let this one get away -- Avalon outscored them, 14-3, in the fourth quarter.

CARPINTERIA: I thought the Warriors (10-3) would win their own tournament championship, but I obviously underestimated Dylan Royer, Justin Clapp and the rest of the Morro Bay squad. Thanks to Royer’s 20 points and Clapp’s 16-point effort, the Pirates claimed the tourney title with a 53-45 victory over the Jacob Ranger-led Warriors. Morro Bay looks like it could challenge Cabrillo for top honors in the Los Padres League.

MISSION PREP: Despite a 16-point night by Mitchell Woolpert, the host Royals (8-7) fell, 55-48, to San Marcos Mission Hills in the Elite Division finals on Saturday night. This one seemed like it was pretty ugly -- there were 40 combined fouls.

SAN FERNANDO VALLEY: Hart heads into its own tournament on Wednesday fresh off a 41-36 victory over Monroe for third place. Not a bad result, especially when you consider how the Indians dropped the ball at the Moorpark tournament a couple weeks ago. Still, Hart (9-3) is a Foothill League title contender with Mike Montgomery (close to 20 ppg) and Levi Wenrich. Crespi finished ninth with a 61-55 victory over View Park Prep and Antelope Valley beat Santa Barbara, 61-49, for 15th place.

WINDWARD: It seems like it’s been an easy transition from turf to hardwood for Santa Clara‘s Cierre Wood and Randi Vines. Wood scored a combined 34 points in the Saints’ (6-1) last two games and Vines netted 12 points in a 69-51 loss to Windward in the championship game. In other action, Malibu (7-4) finished sixth with a 58-56 loss to St. Monica. However, that didn’t stop Chandler Abbott from scoring a game-high 20 points, including 16 in the second half. Abbott is second in team scoring (12.9 ppg) behind Chris Peck (16.3 ppg).
