Vikings don’t mind a silent streak

The streak is hush-hush. ‘I’ll be quite honest with you, we don’t like to talk about it,’ said Santa Monica boys’ basketball Coach James Hecht.

Hecht and his Vikings have won nine consecutive games after starting the season 1-3, most recently beating San Marcos, 50-43, Friday night in the Santa Barbara tournament’s semifinals. They’ll play either Upland or Corona del Mar in the finals Saturday.

‘Our focus is not how many we’re winning,’ Hecht said. ‘We’re just trying to get a little better each game.’

Apparently, they are.
