I know we’ve already blogged about Joseph Fauria, Blake Stanton and Cierre Wood making the transition from helmets and pads to shorts and sneakers, but what about Alemany‘s Chris Gant.

Gant finished the football season as the Warriors’ top receiver and was a key component in pushing Alemany to a share of its first league title in nine years. Well, believe it or not, he’s played an even more valuable role for the Warriors on the court.

The 6-foot-2 junior scored a game-high 18 points in Alemany’s 61-48 victory over La Canada at the La Salle/Temple City Holiday Basketball Classic on Friday, and he’ll likely have an encore performance when the Warriors play Cerritos Valley Christian tonight at 7:30 for the tourney title.

Gant leads the team in scoring and, along with Warriors post standouts Jordan Qualls and Kevin Lenik, is a big reason why Alemany has burrowed through tournament play with what is now a 10-2 record. Of course, Gant has some room for improvement, but he’s shown a lot of consistency in his scoring abilities over the last few days.

We’ll see over the next few weeks if Gant can take his game up a notch and produce the kind of results that has made him a talented athlete on the field.
