When its three-point shots aren’t falling, that’s bad news for Crespi. The Celts went cold in the third quarter of their Mission League boys’ basketball game with host Loyola Monday night, falling behind by 12 points, and could never fully recover, losing, 67-63.

Carl Hoffman, a 6-foot-9, 285-pound junior center for Loyola (9-5, 2-0), scored 24 points. Hollis Thompson had 17 points and Miles Cartwright 13 points.

Crespi (10-5, 1-1) received 17 points from Patrick Booth, all in the first half. Joseph Fauria scored 15 of his 16 points in the second half. The Celts trailed, 64-54, with 3 1/2 minutes left, then made an all-out push, closing to 65-63 with 12 seconds left on a three-pointer by Toby Spino.

But Thompson iced the Cubs’ victory with six seconds left by making two free throws.
