Many players scored goals by the bucketful in girls’ water polo this past week. Way too many, in fact, to list in one blog. A few, though, were just too good to be ignored. So without further adieu, here’s a sprinkling of the best single-game performances in the Southland since Monday....

‘E’s’ for ‘extra effort’ go to Warren’s Melissa Cedarholm, who scored four goals in the Bears’ 8-7, triple-overtime victory over California on Friday, and Sharon Pedregon, who netted seven goals for El Rancho in an 11-10 overtime win over Chaparral on Thursday.

For ‘complete games,’ it’s hard not to pick Millikan’s Tabitha Absmeier, who had six goals, two assists and two steals in the Rams’ wild 16-15 nonleague victory over Palos Verdes on Wednesday. Then there’s Royal teammates Kacey Creek and Breanna Johnson, who each had three goals and three steals in the Highlanders’ 9-5 Marmonte League victory over Westlake on Wednesday.

Top honors, however, must go to Natalie Peng of Cerritos, who tallied nine goals in Thursday’s San Gabriel Valley League opener against Warren. Peng’s teammate Alodie Gaerin also got into the act, scoring four times in the 20-9 victory.

Kudos also to Emily Donohue of St. Lucy’s, who had six goals in Tuesday’s 19-6 Sierra League victory over Chino.

Wonder which players will make a splash next week?
