Long Beach Poly is close to finalizing its 2008 football opener, with the Jackrabbits expected to travel to Miami for a game against Miami Northwestern or Miami Booker T. Washington, Coach Raul Lara said.

Poly, the Southern Section Pac-5 champion, was also negotiating with Corona Centennial, the Inland Division champion, to open the season, but Lara said the Jackrabbits couldn’’t wait any longer. Poly has a contract to play Northern Division champion Ventura St. Bonaventure in Game 5.
