If you can’t make it to Bakersfield for the State Wrestling tournament the end of next month -- and really, who wants to go to Bakersfield? -- then the next-best thing takes place Friday and Saturday at Fountain Valley High.

The Five Counties tournament annually brings together some of the best wrestlers in the state. And, like most years, it seems teams will be trying to keep Poway from winning the team championship.

The Titans have won three years in a row, and annually find themselves near the top of the team standings. The last few years, the best Southland performers have been Northview and Temecula Valley.

Wrestling begins at 11 a.m. on Friday and continues through to 9 p.m., which will knock out the first three rounds of the tournament. Wrestling begins at 9 a.m. Saturday with the commencement of the fourth round. The finals program is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., but there is going to be a lot of great wrestling before that.
