Yoda or not, I think Martin’s wrong

Let’s give Martin Henderson this -- he’s the Yoda of Southland girls’ basketball. So I defer to his Jedi prowess.

But I gotta pitch a beef against Martin’s blog, where he nearly christened the biggest shocker of the season as Orange Lutheran’s 40-34 upset of Mater Dei. Sure, Mater Dei’s good, ranked at No. 13, but it’s not a top-tier team in the Southland. Or the nation, for that matter.

So, in my cocky Han Solo opinion, there’s been a wee-bit bigger surprise. How can you diss unranked Millikan’s upset of then-No. 1 Long Beach Poly on Jan. 7.

The Jackrabbits had just wrapped up a U.S. tour, toppling squads in nearly every time zone, including the No. 1-ranked school in the nation, Virginia’s Notre Dame Academy. Enter the Rams, who got some swagger on Poly’s home turf and beat the ‘Rabbits by five points.

So are there any other opinions out there? How about Mira Costa’s recent dismantling of No. 3 Redondo? That was huge. Chime in and let us know.

Well, Martin, just because I compared you to Yoda, please don’t think I’m implying you’re old -- even though the Jedi Master just celebrated his 900th birthday.
