Before the Saugus girls’ basketball team’s game with visiting Canyon this afternoon, I finally had the chance to meet Saugus’ girls basketball Coach Eric Olsson. I’ve talked to the guy a couple times over the phone, but it was great to finally talk basketball with him face-to-face.

And Olsson loves to talk Saugus basketball, especially since his Centurions are off to a 4-0 start in league. However, I know one of his greatest memories as a coach came when he left Saugus for one year to lead Clovis West’s girls basketball team to a Central Section divisional title five years ago.

‘It was great,’ he said. ‘But my wife could never get used to living up in the Fresno area, so we came back.’

Of course, Olsson didn’t have much time to talk about his past. He was focused on making sure his girls take down a tough Canyon squad looking to pull off the upset. I’ll give a halftime update from this one ... at halftime.
