Cathedral City on the verge of record-breaking season

Now that the PGA circus has left town and before the year-round residents go into lockdown with the arrival of a little different type of crowd, it might be a good time to go check out the Cathedral City boys’ basketball team.

The Lions are 21-0 and can break the school record for consecutive victories with a win Thursday at Indio in a Desert Valley League contest. That seems like a good bet, considering they beat the Rajahs by 38 points the first time around.

Bear Custer scored the 1,000th point of his career in Tuesday night’s victory over Coachella Valley, joining teammate Anthony Gilchrist as the only Cathedral City players to reach that mark.

That right there should tell you the Lions have something special going on this season.
