Victor Rudd has always been one of those players who stood out like a sore thumb on the basketball court -- in a good way, of course. Tall and athletic. Unlimited range from the perimeter. Big-time bounce off the floor. Think he’s what they call the total package. And now, he’s finally getting a chance to prove it.

The junior, fresh off winning an appeal to the CIF state office, scored 24 points and added 10 rebounds in three quarters of work for Van Nuys in Wednesday’s 95-75 Sunset Six League victory over Canoga Park. The effort shouldn’t come as a big surprise considering he scored 29 points and had 11 rebounds in his debut last weekend against Verdugo Hills.

“You can see his game growing with every practice, every shot, every rebound, every pass. He’s maturing,’ Coach Charles White said. “He’s going to play at the next level. He’s got Division I written all over him, a top 100 player in the nation, there’s no doubt about it. Victor is going to be the one kid out of 1,000 that makes it.’

Apparently so. Powerhouse programs from conferences such as the Pac-10 and ACC have been recruiting the 6-foot-8 swingman for a while now. Schools from the Big-12 recently joined in. Who knows where Rudd will end up. It’s way too early to tell. In the meantime, I suggest going to the gym and seeing him play. Once there, you won’t be able to miss him.
