See, I knew we’d have to wait until this week to see any Foothill League boys’ basketball games with some real meaning, and last night’s showdown between Valencia and Hart carried a ton of importance.

Thanks to some clutch shooting by senior guard Terrez Scott, including a game-clinching jumper with six seconds left, first-place Valencia had to work a little harder this time around to beat Hart, 62-60. Last time these teams met, it was as if anarchy had broken out on the court in what turned out to be Mike Montgomery’s final game with the Indians.

Getting back to Scott, it’s good to see he’s finally getting some recognition, even though he had to hit a game-winning shot to get in this blog. I realize John Otavka, Skyler Seymour and Brandon Thrush are the Vikings’ headliners, thanks to their ability to scribble all over the score sheet, but Scott has played a key role in making the Valencia offense tick.

‘He’s done a lot more than people realize,’ Coach Robert Collins said. ‘His job is to run our offense and he does a great job doing it. His job isn’t to score, but if we let him, he’d probably average between 15-20 points.’
