Tested at home for the first time all season, the Santee boys’ basketball team turned to Josh Chatman on Friday night and the senior center took command down the stretch, finishing with 21 points, 19 rebounds, 10 blocks and three steals in a 67-63 victory over Bravo Medical.

Freddy Cruz had 10 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks and Arthur Fields added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Falcons, who remain undefeated in the Southern League with three games remaining.

Santee led, 37-26, after two quarters but couldn’t shake the second-place Knights, who made six three-pointers in the second half and twice pulled to within a basket.

‘They ran a flex offense and hit some threes to close the gap,’ Santee Coach Curtis Hughes said. ‘They didn’t make mistakes. Those boys are studying to be doctors and they did a good job of drawing Josh [Chatman] away from the basket. The problem is he can shoot jumpers too.’

Its second hard-fought victory over Bravo extended Santee’s winning streak to eight heading into Monday’s game against West Adams Prep.
