It was an entertaining first half of the sixth boys’ basketball game of the day in the Nike Extravaganza at Mater Dei High.

Fourth-ranked Santa Margarita leads third-ranked Dominguez, 32-31, despite 17 points from Dominguez junior forward Jordan Hamilton.

Santa Margarita’s leading scorer, Washington State-bound swingman Klay Thompson, went scoreless until getting sevenn points in the last two minutes of the first half. Zack Zaragoza then hit a three-pointer from the corner with 40 seconds left to give the Eagles their one-point halftime advantage.

Jaime Serna has 10 points to lead the Eagles, who shot 58.3% from the field.

If Thompson can avoid that third personal foul and play some decent minutes in the second half, and Santa Margarita can find an answer for Hamilton, the Eagles seem like they could steal this one.
