Finishing kick? Showcase game?

No matter how you label it, Van Nuys is going to be out to impress the playoff selection committee members with its boys’ basketball game at North Hollywood onWednesday.

The Wolves (11-15, 6-2) may not be able to catch the Huskies for the Sunset Six League championship; North Hollywood (19-6, 8-0), only has to win one of its two remaining games to claim the title.

But Van Nuys, which has won eight of its last 10 including Friday’s 69-65 victory over Grant, is still battling for a mid- to lower-level City championship seed. The Wolves wants committee members to see how it is finishing the season rather than remember how it started.

‘We’d love to get a 12 seed. But we’re trying to avoid that 14th through 16th seed, where you have to play Taft, Fairfax or Westchester right out the gate,’ Coach Charles White said. ‘I think these guys are ready to play [those teams]. If we get them, we get them.’

But if beating North Hollywood isn’t necessarily a crusade for White, it sounds close. ‘We want to shake them up on Wednesday,’ he said.
