Water polo: City’s quarterfinalists set to make a splash today/Monday

Top-seeded Birmingham makes its playoff debut today/Monday when it hosts eighth-seeded Eagle Rock in a quarterfinal match of the City Section’s water polo playoffs.

Eagle Rock reached the game by defeating Santee in the first round, 10-4. Birmingham is coming off a first-round bye.

Other quarterfinal matches today/Monday include fifth-seeded Fremont, an 11-9 first-round winner over Garfield, visiting fourth-seeded Venice; third-seeded Roosevelt hosting sixth-seeded Banning, a 6-5 first-round winner over Contreras, and seventh-seeded Verdugo Hills, a 21-9 first-round winner over Manual Arts, visiting second-seeded Cleveland. All matches are scheduled for 3 p.m.

The semifinals will take place on Wednesday, and the championship will be held at 6 p.m. Friday at the John Argue Swim Stadium, located adjacent to the Coliseum.
