Seemingly every year, right around this time, there’s all kinds of suspense surrounding the future of college football. The peeked interest typically has to deal with over-publicized recruits and powerhouse NCAA Division I programs going back and forth about who’s going where and when. The hype, the speculation, it all gets tiresome after a while.

Anyways, back to my point. I had the pleasure of dealing with two fine young men from Oaks Christian this afternoon: Christopher Potter, who signed with Boise St., and Chris Owusu, heading to Stanford after putting his name on the dotted line. And the refreshing part of the encounter was both kids honored commitments they made quite some time ago and never wavered about the decisions despite outside interferences.

‘I think schools around the country understood how serious I was about going to Boise St. after I gave a verbal over the summer. Everyone knew the Broncos were on the top of my list,’’ Potter said. ‘Boise St. is like a tight-knit family and that’s something I want to be a part of. I don’t think I could’ve found that type of atmosphere anywhere else. This is a good fit for me.’’

BYU and Washington expressed interest in Owusu even though he committed to the Cardinal back in June. However, nothing could deter him from spending the next four years of his life in Palo Alto. ‘A number of schools tried to keep in contact with me, but Stanford has always appealed to me,’’ he said. ‘I’ve been firm with my commitment since Day 1.’’
