Be proud, City of Long Beach.

Not for being the childhood home of sports icons Billie Jean King or Tony Gwynn. Not for showcasing the RMS Queen Mary or developing into one the world’s largest shipping ports. And not for providing locations for a slew of Hollywood films, including Ferris Bueller’s house in ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.’

No, for the moment, be proud of your girls’ basketball teams.

Poly and Millikan, both of Long Beach, closed out The Times’ basketball rankings as the No. 1 and No. 2 teams, respectively. What a colossal achievement.

Oh, one more thing: Always be proud of Long Beach native and rap-meister, Cordozar Calvin Broadus, Jr. Who? Snoop Dogg. Or should I say, be proud-izzle.
