Girls’ water polo: Will Ventura sink Flacks-less Agoura?

It almost seemed a little unfair that Capistrano Valley had to play Ventura in a Division II wild-card game on Tuesday. After all, the only reason the Cougars didn’t get an automatic playoff berth was because they had to jump in the same pool a couple times with SoCal titans Dos Pueblos and Santa Barbara.

So, Ventura’s 11-6 victory over the Capo Valley gals doesn’t surprise me, and I’d be shocked if it didn’t beat defending Division II champions Agoura this afternoon. I was really looking forward to see who would come out on top in Casey Flacks vs. Alexis Lee: The Thrilla in Agoura, but it looks like it’s going to be somewhat one-sided affair now that Flacks is injured.

As you may have already read, Flacks broke her hand in practice on Friday and is out for the remainder of the postseason. The Loyola Marymount-bound senior has been the main artery of the Agoura offense.

It’s not like Agoura is helpless, though. Both Casey Clark and Perri Hopkins know how to find the back of the net and they’re fully capable of morphing into a Flacks substitute.

However, the Chargers will be in trouble if they get into another wild shootout similar to their 13-12 OT victory over the Cougars on Jan. 5. Lee scored seven goals in that loss, and Agoura can’t afford for that to happen again.
